My dog is obsessed with this toy. She’s a beagle, so she tends to be a terror with soft toys and mostly food motivated so I was worried she’d either destroy it in two seconds or have no interest. NOT THE CASE! She loves digging the squirrels out and squeaking them. I make it more difficult by shoving other toys in too so they’re harder to get out. If I want to get her extra engaged I’ll pour a tiny bit of kibble topper or crushed cod skin in there and she’ll sniff it for a good hour. I gave it a 4 for durability bc one of the squirrels was torn with the first use, but that’s probably more my dogs fault than the product, and the squirrels are replaceableSo this is perfect for small doggos. Its actually a bit smaller than i had expected, which i was concerned about when i first opened it. But its small but adorable and perfect for my 10 pound dachsund/scottish terrior. He actually loves the little "hill" or "burrow" the squirrels go in, more than the squirrels and wont rest until each tiny squirrel is no longer trapped inside haha. Even my bigger girl, a 48 pound Blue Heeler snatched one of the little squirrels to play with and has yet to damage it! Which is a big deal since she is a destructive chewer. Would buy again at this price point.I was a skeptic and thought my lab would chew it to bits. He has played with it for longer periods of time than I thought I’d let him have it but he loves getting the squirrels out and tossing the home. It really is a great toy that he gets once or twice a day just for a while. He has plenty to chew on and he gets so excited for this toy to be brought out. This toy has kept my dog's interest and withstood her intense chewing. She loves stomping on it, finding and pulling out the squirrels and making them squeak. She has destroyed other soft chew toys within a couple of weeks, but this one has held up well. Yet it is still soft enough to keep her interested in playing with it. Our fur baby is a 55lb Blue Heeler and we bought the Hide-A-Squirrel with 3 squirrels. Our puppy is small (4 pounds) so this toy is perfect for him. The squirrels are small enough that they will fit in his mouth to carry them around. He loves the log and likes it when we hide treats inside then stuff the squirrels back in. He has to root around to pull the squirrels out to get to the treats. Keeps him entertained for several minutes--a long time for an overactive puppy. I may order a 2nd one to keep in our RV so I don't have to take it back & forth. This is great for bored dogs that need something to do. It depends on the dog, breed, personality for durability, chewproof & teething. I had a pitbull, she loved it, but was able to pull apart the critters to get to the squeaker. I have a smaller, maltipoo dog & she loves it also but doesn't chew it apart. I also stuff smaller toys along w/what is given, more of a challenge for them.I have a super chewer who LOVES to “de fluff” her toys. Bought this on sale and she LOVES IT. I make it last a little longer by stuffing newspaper in, some training treats, etc., and she has a ball pulling everything out. I needed a way to let her use that instinct to tear things out, and this was the solution! The toys are not the most durable, so I do supervise her during use, but she is less likely to chew and tear apart the little squirrels because she is able to pull them out of the larger tree! Even just the newspaper seems like it’s a lot of fun for her to pull out. This toy is so cute! Includes a small tree trunk to hide 3 squeaky squirrels in. My dog plays with it constantly and it tired him out. The only issue is he ripped through two squirrels and the cotton is exposed. I will try to sew it , but otherwise, a great way to entertain and exhaust your petThis was a birthday present for my lab mix, turned 14. She has always been obsessed with squirrels in the park, but she is no longer as young as she used to be so she can’t sprint after them anymore (she can barely see them these days). Her face when she got this was pure joy; she finally has ALL THE SQUIRRELS!!! We throw a few small cookies down the log and she goes to town. She adores it! Thank you for a brilliant soft toy; it’s making this elderly squirrel chaser very happy!Be careful, we bought this for our dog who left it out in the garden overnight only to discover that 3 chipmunks decided to use it as their home, they refused to let our dog have it back. If anyone knows Alvin, Simon or Theodore, tell them I’m not happy and that I’m looking for them with my chipmunk trap cage. Our 3 year old Labradoodle (more poodle than Lab) is a "power chewer" - nothing escapes total destruction (unless she totally ignores it) so I was a little worried about buying this for her. I ordered the ginormous size to be on the safe side; it comes with 6 squirrels so enough for spares if some didn't make it to see another day (she gets through toys for strong chewers in a matter of minutes). We have been very controlled in introducing and playing this with her (we started with just 3 squirrels but she's worked her way up to 6) and she doesn't play with it on her own just in case, but oh how she loves it. So far we have focused on simply finding the squirrels with no need to load the tree trunk with treats. She has discovered the squeaks which fuels her play but she is also learning to 'give' and 'drop' (with treat rewards for safe delivery of squirrels); she is also learning to bring the tree back for re-filling. I don't doubt that, left to her own devices, this toy would be shredded extremely quickly; if your dog is so inclined, and if you don't have the time or desire to engage in managing their play then you might be disappointed with how long this item lasts. If you are happy to supervise/be involved in their play, then I'd highly recommend this toy.Placed it on the floor with a few treats hidden at the bottom under the squirrels.... pups were totally disinterested... so I went out the room.... heard a few squeaks (squirrels, not dogs) and came back to find squirrels everywhere!!! The fact they squeak makes the dogs back off... then they come back doing an sas style crawl (dogs, not squirrels) for round two! My older girl rottie then picks up the whole thing and hides it when she’s decided she’s tired so no one can play any more.... ???? XxMy lab. has had it since he was 5 months old - he is now 1 year - and he absolutely loves it; it is definitely his favourite. He uses it for play by himself, to pick up and carry in his mouth when he’s excited greeting people arriving or coming down first thing in the morning, to nudge us into playing hide the squirrel with him (hide under pillows and squeak or stick your hand in the trunk and poke a squirrel out) - there are lots of ways to play. He did chew it at first, removed the cardboard base (but it still stands up so no problem) and tear it a bit, but it’s easy to repair and he doesn’t chew it any more. It gives him, and us, hours of pleasure. The best toy ever.
